Mr. Brown is licensed by the United States Coast Guard as Master and First Class Pilot. He attended law school after working in various shoreside and seagoing capacities for Lykes Bros. Steamship Co., Texaco Marine Services, the Falcon Shipping Group and Coastal Corporation. He received his B.S. in Marine Transportation with honors from Texas A&M University in 1981 and is a 1989 graduate of the University of Houston Law Center, where he served as President of the Admiralty Law Society. Mr. Brown is a Proctor in Admiralty in the Maritime Law Association of the United States and has served as a Director of the Southeastern Admiralty Law Institute. He has published articles on various aspects of maritime law in the Journal of Maritime Law & Commerce, the American Journal of Trial Advocacy, The Defense Counsel Journal, The Nautical Institute, The Houston Lawyer, Texas Tech University Law Review and the State Bar of Texas Environmental Law Journal. He is a maintaining member in the College of the State Bar of Texas and served on the faculty of the State Bar’s Advanced Personal Injury Law Course.
Mr. Brown has an active trial and appellate practice focused on maritime personal injury, collision and offshore energy matters. He also represents ship pilots and licensed mariners in state and Coast Guard license proceedings, civil penalty proceedings and civil lawsuits.
