Mr. McGrath obtained an unlimited third officer's license, any vessel, any ocean, and a B.S. in Marine Transportation upon graduation from the State University of New York Maritime College at Fort Schuyler in 1982. Mr. McGrath then joined Geophysical Services, Inc. (a subsidiary of Texas Instruments) and worked offshore conducting marine seismic surveys. Mr. McGrath supplemented his knowledge and experience in the marine industry by concentrating his studies in maritime and admiralty law while attending Tulane University School of Law.
Since 1988, Mr. McGrath's practice has focused on maritime and offshore oil and gas litigation on behalf of vessel owners, operators, charterers and P&I Clubs at both trial and appellate levels. He also represents ship pilots and individual mariners in Coast Guard proceedings and civil litigation. He has published articles on various maritime topics such as casualty investigations, maintenance and cure claim handling and defense strategies, and he has negotiated and prepared ship building and repair contracts, charter parties, towage contracts and oil field service contracts.
Acting as the system administrator and webmaster for the firm Mr. McGrath has enhanced his computer repair and maintenance skills learned while employed by Texas Instruments and has begun advising small businesses on emerging industry issues. Specifically, e-commerce issues, and website construction relative to permissible linking, deep linking, framing, metatagging, domain redirection, trade dress protection, and related matters.
