Mr. Hatzel is a proud Texan. He is a
2006 graduate of the University of Pittsburgh where he finished third in
his class with a Bachelor of Arts in Communication Studies and
Rhetoric. Upon returning to Houston, he worked for the ocean carrier,
Maersk, before attending law school at the University of Houston Law
Center.
During law school,
Mr. Hatzel served as an editor for the Houston Law Review and was
elected to the Order of the Barons. Concentrating his studies on
maritime law, he was twice-selected to represent the Law Center in the
Judge John R. Brown Admiralty Moot Court Competition reaching the
National Quarterfinal round in 2009 and the National Semifinal round in
2010. Before graduating in 2010, he interned for the Honorable Calvin
Botley, United States Magistrate Judge, and the Honorable Jeff Bohm,
United States Bankruptcy Judge, in the Southern District of Texas.
Mr. Hatzel was
admitted to practice in Texas in 2010. He practices in all areas of
maritime law.
