Mr. Papandreou was born in 1967 and raised in Athens, Greece and
attended the University of Athens – School of Law, where he received an
LL.B. in 1988. After successfully completing the mandatory two-year
apprenticeship period and the required written and oral portions of the
Athens bar examination, Mr. Papandreou was licensed to practice law in
Greece (European Union) in 1991. Mr. Papandreou received his U.S. legal
education at Notre Dame Law School, where he received his J.D. in 1994.
He has also received a Certificate in Advanced Arbitration Skills –
Comprehensive Course in Commercial Arbitration (Domestic &
International) from the University of Houston Law Center’s A.A. White
Dispute Resolution Center. He has been licensed to practice law in
Texas since 1994 and is admitted to practice before the Supreme Court of
the United States, the United States Courts of Appeals for the Fifth,
Eleventh, and D.C. Circuits, as well as the United States District
Courts for the Southern, Northern, Eastern, and Western Districts of
Texas.
Since moving to
Houston in 1994, Mr. Papandreou has been focusing his practice in the
areas of admiralty/maritime, energy, and general commercial litigation
and arbitration, as well as offshore and land-based casualty
litigation for the energy, marine, real estate, manufacturing,
construction, and dredging industries. His experience includes handling
complex offshore construction disputes in the petrochemical industry,
class action litigation, litigation over long-term supply contracts,
royalty rights, consumer fraud cases, multi-year insurance coverage
matters, defense and prosecution of maritime commercial cases involving
charter party disputes, demurrage, and dead-freight claims, as well as
maritime liens and foreclosures. Parallel to his litigation work, Mr.
Papandreou has counseled several companies as to numerous Master Service
Agreements (MSAs), Joint Operating Agreements (JOAs), Front-End
Engineering and Design Agreements (FEEDs/pre-FEEDs), Engineering,
Procurement & Construction Agreements (EPCs) and with respect to a
variety of other transactions in the offshore drilling, procurement,
engineering, exploration, and production areas.
Mr. Papandreou has successfully represented
clients, including oil majors, drilling companies, vessel owners,
major pharmaceutical and consumer products manufacturers, and dredging
contractors, at the trial and appellate levels
in a wide array of cases litigated in both federal and state courts of
many jurisdictions. He has also been involved in several
arbitrations in the United States and internationally.
Mr. Papandreou is a member of the Advisory Board of The Institute
for Transnational Arbitration, has authored
several articles, and has also served as a guest writer for the Express
Daily Financial Newspaper in Athens, Greece (1995-present). Mr.
Papandreou spoke at the 2006 SKULD P&I Club Piraeus Seminar on
“Navigating the Shoals of U.S. Maritime Litigation: A U.S. Lawyer’s
Perspective on a Unique Legal System.” He is
a member of the American, Federal, and Houston Bar Associations, the
State Bar of Texas, the Athens Bar Association, and Proctor of the
Maritime Law Association of the United States. Mr. Papandreou speaks
Greek, English, French, German, and Italian.
